Fast-Track Courts Established by Modi to Address Exam Paper Leaks

Date:

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has unveiled plans to establish fast-track courts aimed at expediting justice for those implicated in examination paper leaks. Emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the future of the nation’s youth, Modi asserted that individuals compromising students’ prospects “will not be spared.” This initiative is part of a government strategy to enhance the speed and severity of consequences for such offenses.

In a social media announcement, the Prime Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to protecting student interests by instructing authorities to take decisive measures. The establishment of these courts signifies a broader movement to address the growing concerns over examination integrity and deliver timely justice in leak cases.

The announcement follows a wave of student protests in New Delhi, sparked by ongoing examination irregularities. Demonstrators have been vocal in their demands for accountability in paper leak incidents and have even called for the resignation of the education minister. Tensions escalated earlier this week when confrontations between protesters and police near the Parliament resulted in injuries, intensifying the protests.

Public trust in India’s examination system has been undermined by multiple incidents, including a notable leak of a national medical entrance exam paper, which led to millions of candidates having to retake the test. Additional controversies, such as issues with the evaluation of high school examinations, have further eroded confidence in the education system.

The government contends that these new fast-track courts will play a crucial role in bolstering accountability and restoring public faith in the examination process, addressing not only the immediate concerns over paper leaks but also broader grievances related to unemployment and opportunities for the youth.
