President Donald Trump projected confidence about his upcoming meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, stating, “I think we’re going to be fine with China.” The summit is scheduled for two weeks from now.
This optimistic take comes despite his own admission that the high tariffs on China are “not sustainable.” He reconciled this by claiming China “forced me to do that.”
The president praised his personal rapport with Xi, saying, “I get along great with him.” But he also remained cautious, noting, “China is always looking for an edge. We’ll see what happens.”
The meeting, expected at the APEC summit in South Korea, is set against a November 10 deadline. On that day, a 90-day trade truce expires, potentially re-igniting the trade war.
Just last week, Trump had threatened to cancel the meeting and impose 100% tariffs. Now, he is focused on his demand for a “fair deal.”
