Sundar Pichai Announces $15 Billion Google AI Hub in Visakhapatnam

Google CEO Sundar Pichai has announced the establishment of the first Google AI hub in Visakhapatnam, describing it as a “landmark development” in India’s digital transformation. The project represents a $15 billion investment over five years, making it Google’s largest AI facility outside the United States.
The hub will feature gigawatt-scale computing capacity, a new international subsea gateway, and large-scale energy infrastructure, aiming to make Visakhapatnam a global centre for AI innovation. According to Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian, the facility will help power AI-driven solutions across industries while promoting sustainable, locally integrated data infrastructure.
The initiative aligns with India’s Vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, with leaders highlighting its potential to boost economic growth, digital skills, and employment. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized that the project would play a pivotal role in advancing India’s AI Mission and digital economy.
Serving as the anchor for the AI City Vizag initiative, the project includes a 1 GW hyperscale data centre campus, integration of clean energy systems, and the creation of over 180,000 jobs, reinforcing India’s emergence as a global AI powerhouse.
