Russia Defends India’s Trade Sovereignty Against US Pressure

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov called U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent threats “illegal” and “unacceptable.” Trump had taken to social media to accuse India of profiting from the resale of Russian oil and threatened to “substantially” increase tariffs on Indian products, adding to the 25% tariff already in place since August 1.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs has also pushed back forcefully. In a statement, the government declared the targeting of India “unjustified and unreasonable” and reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding its “national interests and economic security.”
