Modi Criticizes Developed Nations for Misplacing Carbon Emission Blame on Developing Countries

Date:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the need to reconsider the blame often placed on developing countries for global carbon emissions, highlighting India’s comparatively low per capita emissions during a speech in New Delhi. Speaking at the International Conference on “The Future of Environment and Climate Dynamics,” Modi noted that India’s emissions are less than half the global average.

The two-day conference, organized by the National Green Tribunal on September 19 and 20, gathered judges, government officials, environmental experts, and legal representatives from India and abroad. The event focused on pressing environmental and climate issues such as gaps in policy implementation, environmental justice, and institutional cooperation.

Modi underscored India’s proactive approach to renewable energy, stating that the nation has met its Paris Agreement climate commitments ahead of schedule. He highlighted significant advancements in non-fossil fuel capacity and solar energy as key components of India’s environmental strategy.

The conference featured four technical sessions dedicated to discussing major environmental challenges and developing strategies for future climate dynamics. These sessions aimed to foster dialogue and explore comprehensive approaches to address the global climate crisis.
