Modi Accuses Opposition of Spreading Fertiliser and LPG Shortage Rumours Amid West Asia Conflict

Date:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accused opposition parties of spreading misinformation about potential shortages of fertilisers and cooking gas, amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia. Speaking in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district on October 30, Modi alleged that these rumours were intended to incite panic and undermine the government’s efforts.

Modi assured the public that his government has maintained a steady supply of fertilisers despite rising international prices. He emphasized the government’s commitment to shielding farmers from these global price increases through subsidies. For instance, he pointed out that a bag of urea, costing around ₹3,000 internationally, is available to Indian farmers for under ₹300. Similarly, DAP fertiliser, priced at about ₹5,000 on the global market, is supplied for ₹1,350 per bag in India.

Addressing claims about cooking gas shortages, Modi dismissed these as baseless and intended to cause unnecessary alarm among households. He reiterated the government’s dedication to ensuring that such essential supplies remain unaffected by international conflicts.

During the same event, Modi announced the release of the 24th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, which provides eligible farmers with ₹6,000 annually in direct income support. He highlighted that over the years, farmers have significantly benefited from government initiatives, claiming savings and earnings exceeding ₹50 lakh crore through various agricultural policies.

Modi also pointed to improvements in agricultural sectors such as dairy, fisheries, and honey production, attributing these advancements to government measures aimed at increasing farmers’ incomes and enhancing rural livelihoods.

In addition, Modi inaugurated the Bharat Bovine Breeding and Research Centre, a 127-acre facility in Bhildi, dedicated to the indigenous Kankrej cattle breed. This centre is expected to bolster research and development in the livestock sector, with a focus on enhancing economic opportunities through dairy farming and related activities.

The Prime Minister’s address also marked his 25th year in public service, reflecting on his journey from being the Chief Minister of Gujarat to leading the nation. Modi is set to participate in events commemorating Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on October 31, celebrating the 151st birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
