During a visit by India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his desire to meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon. The meeting took place at the Kremlin as part of Jaishankar’s two-day diplomatic trip. Putin conveyed his best wishes to Modi and expressed hope that their next encounter could coincide with the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s activities. Additionally, Putin is anticipated to travel to New Delhi for the upcoming BRICS leaders’ summit scheduled for September.

Highlighting the strengthening ties between Russia and India, Putin pointed out the increase in trade between the two nations. He specifically mentioned that Moscow has been boosting its fertilizer supplies to India and is prepared to expand these exports further. This demonstrates the growing economic collaboration between the two countries, aimed at enhancing their mutual trade relations.

Earlier in Jaishankar’s visit, he engaged in discussions with Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov. These talks focused on enhancing bilateral trade and economic cooperation. Manturov also indicated that Russia is considering localizing the production of nuclear fuel in India, which could signify a deepening of their strategic partnership in the energy sector.

During his stay, Jaishankar is also expected to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. This meeting will likely cover a range of topics, including the current state of bilateral relations and significant regional and international developments. The discussions are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the diplomatic ties between India and Russia amid evolving global dynamics.
