Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor have refuted reports that India turned down a fast-track trade agreement with the United States, labeling such claims as “false” and “misleading.” According to Goyal, recent conversations with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer were constructive, with both countries reaffirming their dedication to negotiating a balanced and mutually advantageous trade deal.
Sergio Gor echoed this sentiment, describing the discussions as positive and noting that both nations remain actively engaged in the process. He emphasized the ongoing commitment from both sides to reach a mutually beneficial agreement.
Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agarwal provided further insights, stating that the negotiations are progressing smoothly. He mentioned that the framework for the agreement is already in place, and both countries are waiting for the appropriate moment to finalize and sign the deal.
US officials have also shown optimism about the potential for an interim trade agreement to be reached soon. They highlighted the continued collaboration between New Delhi and Washington, underscoring the strong relationship and shared goals in enhancing trade relations.
