A Show of Force: Europe’s Diplomatic Armada Arrives in Washington

Date:

A diplomatic armada from Europe has arrived in Washington in a powerful show of force. The continent’s most senior leaders are in the city to support Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy before he enters what is expected to be a contentious meeting with Donald Trump over a pro-Russia peace deal.
This “bodyguard” mission is a deliberate and coordinated display of unity and strength. The sheer number and influence of the leaders involved are intended to send an unmistakable signal to the White House that Europe stands as one with Ukraine.
The fleet of leaders includes those at the helm of Europe’s key institutions—NATO’s Mark Rutte and the EU’s Ursula von der Leyen. It also features the commanders of its most powerful nations: France’s Macron, Germany’s Merz, the UK’s Starmer, and Italy’s Meloni.
Their objective is to create a political environment where it is impossible for Trump to bully or isolate Zelenskyy. By surrounding him with powerful allies, they aim to ensure that the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity are upheld and that any discussion of peace is a negotiation among equals, not a dictate.
