Pralhad Joshi Takes Over as India’s New Education Minister

Date:

Pralhad Joshi has stepped into his new role as India’s Education Minister, taking on the additional responsibilities alongside his current duties. On his first day in office at Kartavya Bhavan, New Delhi, Joshi conducted a thorough review of the nation’s key education initiatives and the progress of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This move marks the beginning of his tenure in the education sector, an area he openly acknowledged as new to him.

Upon assuming his new responsibilities, Joshi engaged in discussions with senior officials from the Departments of School Education and Higher Education. His aim was to gain a comprehensive understanding of the ministry’s ongoing projects and strategies. Joshi expressed a commitment to familiarize himself with the detailed functioning of the department before making any substantive comments or changes.

Joshi emphasized that the assignment of this important portfolio was a decision by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and highlighted his dedication to maintaining the momentum of significant educational programs. He stated that his immediate focus would be on ensuring a seamless continuation of existing initiatives while gradually deepening his insight into the field.

The additional charge was given to Joshi following the acceptance of Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation by President Droupadi Murmu. As Joshi takes on these new responsibilities, he brings a fresh perspective to the education ministry, promising to build on the foundation laid by his predecessor while steering India’s education policies forward.
