Parliament Braces for Intense Debate on Pahalgam Attack and Operation Sindoor

Date:

Parliament’s Monsoon session is set to witness a fervent debate starting Monday, focusing on the recent Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor. Both the ruling NDA and the Opposition are preparing for a heated exchange on these critical issues concerning national security and foreign policy.
Top leaders from both sides are expected to participate in the discussions in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar are slated to speak on the matters, with indications that Prime Minister Narendra Modi might intervene to emphasize the government’s strong stance against terrorism.
Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, along with Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Yadav, are expected to lead the charge against the government. Both Houses have agreed to a marathon 16-hour debate, which often extends beyond the scheduled time.
The ruling NDA plans to field a range of ministers and leaders, including Anurag Thakur, Sudhanshu Trivedi, and Nishikant Dubey. Additionally, members from the multi-party delegations that visited various world capitals to present India’s case after Operation Sindoor, such as Shrikant Shinde of Shiv Sena, Sanjay Jha of JD(U), and Harish Balayogi of TDP, are also expected to participate.
A point of speculation is whether Shashi Tharoor, who led a delegation to the US, will be chosen by the Congress to speak, given his past endorsement of the government’s actions post-terror attack, which has reportedly strained his relationship with his party.
