The West Bengal government is set to sign an agreement with the central government on September 28 to develop a new airport in Purulia district under the UDAN scheme, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced. This initiative aims to enhance regional air connectivity and stimulate economic growth in the area.
Preparations for the airport project are already in place, with the state government having submitted the necessary application for a license. Discussions involving representatives from civil aviation authorities have also been part of the planning process, indicating progress toward realizing the airport’s establishment.
The introduction of an airport in Purulia is expected to bolster tourism, infrastructure, and industrial development in the district. As the project materializes, it could serve as a significant catalyst for regional advancement, particularly in sectors such as defense, steel, cement, and solar energy.
Chief Minister Adhikari highlighted that Purulia has the potential to attract substantial investments, with projections suggesting possible inflows of around ₹1 lakh crore over the coming year. The strategic development of the airport is anticipated to play a crucial role in facilitating these investments by improving accessibility and connectivity.
