Authorities Announce September 29 Opening for Barapullah Phase III in Delhi

Date:

The long-awaited Barapullah Phase III elevated corridor in Delhi is set to open on September 29, promising to greatly enhance connectivity between East Delhi’s Mayur Vihar and Noida with key areas in South Delhi. The 3.5-kilometer infrastructure project aims to provide a largely signal-free route, significantly reducing travel time across these regions.

The corridor stretches from Mayur Vihar Phase I to Sarai Kale Khan, linking up with the existing Barapullah corridor. This new addition is expected to cut down the current 35–40 minute journey to approximately 15 minutes, depending on traffic conditions and the point of departure. This improvement is particularly beneficial for commuters traveling between East Delhi and central locations like AIIMS.

Incorporating a bridge over the Yamuna River, the four-lane corridor also features nine traffic-distribution loops, connecting ramps, a dedicated cycle track, and pedestrian facilities, making it a comprehensive development for diverse road users.

Originally approved in 2014, the project faced several delays due to land acquisition issues, the need for various clearances, construction challenges, and disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. These setbacks have caused the initial project cost to rise from ₹1,260 crore to approximately ₹1,635 crore.

With major structures such as the Yamuna bridge and connecting ramps now complete, final preparations are underway to ensure a smooth launch later this month. The opening of this corridor marks a significant milestone in improving Delhi’s transportation network, offering a more efficient route for daily commuters.
