Pakistan PM Claims Downing of Indian Jets, Hails Trump as ‘Man of Peace’

Date:

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, addressing the UN General Assembly, claimed that Pakistani forces shot down seven Indian aircraft in May during Operation Sindoor. He asserted, “We won the war, and now we seek to win peace.”
Sharif praised US President Donald Trump for facilitating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, calling him a “man of peace.” He further announced that Pakistan has nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his role in brokering the truce. “In a position of strength, Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire facilitated by President Trump’s bold and vigorous leadership,” Sharif stated.
His remarks stand in contrast to India’s official position, which maintains that the ceasefire was arranged directly between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries without outside involvement.
Sharif also raised concerns over India’s suspension of the Indus Water Treaty following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. The treaty, signed in 1960 with World Bank mediation, allocates control of eastern rivers to India and western rivers to Pakistan. India’s move to place it in abeyance was part of its countermeasures against cross-border terrorism.
Calling the suspension “illegal and unilateral,” Sharif warned that Pakistan views any violation of the treaty as an act of war. He emphasized that access to the Indus waters is an inseparable right of Pakistan’s people.
