Google has rolled out its Gemini in Chrome artificial intelligence features to Android users in India, integrating AI-powered assistance directly within the Chrome browser. This update allows users to perform a variety of web-based tasks with enhanced ease, including summarizing webpages and connecting information across Google services like Gmail and Calendar. Additionally, it offers the capability to generate images.
The expansion also includes a more advanced auto-browse feature for desktop and Android devices, available to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers in India. This feature enables Gemini to navigate websites and execute certain tasks on behalf of users, such as comparing products, finding deals, booking event tickets, making restaurant reservations, and scheduling appointments. It is specifically designed to manage complex, multi-step activities that would typically necessitate users navigating multiple webpages and performing multiple actions.
To ensure safe browsing, Google has implemented safeguards that help mitigate risks associated with AI interacting directly with websites. Gemini can identify threats, such as prompt-injection attempts, and users may be required to confirm sensitive actions before they are completed. These measures are crucial when an AI system is capable of making changes, submitting forms, or conducting transactions on behalf of the user.
The number of multi-step tasks users can perform through the auto-browse feature is contingent on their Google AI subscription level. Google AI Pro subscribers can execute up to 20 multi-step requests daily, whereas Google AI Ultra subscribers can make up to 200 requests per day.
This expansion represents a significant step in Google’s efforts to embed more agentic AI capabilities into Chrome, allowing users to transition from merely asking AI questions to actively using it to carry out various tasks across the web.
