PM Modi Urges Opposition to Focus on Performance, Not Drama, in Winter Session

Date:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday emphasized that India has strengthened its democratic values, highlighting the high voter turnout in the recent Bihar elections—especially the participation of women—as a testament to the power of Indian democracy. Speaking ahead of the Winter Session of Parliament, he said the nation has shown that democracy can deliver.
Taking a clear swipe at the Opposition’s electoral setback in Bihar, PM Modi urged its members not to be unsettled by the results and instead contribute constructively to the upcoming parliamentary session. He added that his own alliance must ensure its victory does not translate into arrogance.
Calling for responsible conduct, PM Modi appealed to Opposition leaders to “deliver, not do drama” inside Parliament. He said their statements suggest they are still grappling with the Bihar loss and offered to give them “tips” to rethink their political strategy after repeated electoral underperformance.
The Winter Session is expected to see strong debates, particularly with the Opposition pushing for a discussion on the special intensive revision of electoral rolls. The government, meanwhile, plans to introduce ten new bills and hold a discussion on 150 years of Vande Mataram. The session runs until December 19, with both sides expressing willingness to keep proceedings productive despite disagreements.
