PM Modi Reaffirms India’s Commitment to Peace in Ukraine in Talks with Zelenskyy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and reiterated India’s consistent position on the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict. Modi assured that India remains committed to making every possible contribution toward an early end to the war and to strengthening bilateral ties with Ukraine.
The conversation comes just days after Modi’s talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and ahead of the scheduled meeting between US President Donald Trump and Putin in Alaska on August 15. Zelenskyy, in his remarks, expressed gratitude for India’s support in peace efforts and stressed that any decisions concerning Ukraine must involve its participation. He briefed Modi on recent Russian attacks, including a strike in Zaporizhzhia, and emphasized the importance of limiting Russian energy exports to curtail its ability to finance the war.
Both leaders agreed to meet in person during the UN General Assembly in September and explore further cooperation. Modi reiterated that India continues to advocate for political and diplomatic solutions to the crisis, a stance maintained since the start of the war in February 2022.
