The state of Maharashtra has mandated Aadhaar authentication for the registration of immovable property documents starting October 1, in an effort to curb fraud and enhance identity verification processes. This new requirement encompasses 63 types of registrations, such as property sales, purchases, mortgages, and partition deeds.
Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule stated that the initiative aims to reduce instances of impersonation, fake documentation, and human intervention in the registration process. To ensure a secure and efficient property registration system, individuals without an Aadhaar number must present proof of application for Aadhaar alongside other government-issued identity documents. Their information will be verified before completing the transaction.
The government has also introduced special provisions for minors and certain eligible categories. Children without an Aadhaar number will not be denied property registration benefits solely due to the unavailability of the identification number. These measures are part of a broader strategy to make property registration more secure, transparent, and efficient, according to the government.
