Kiren Rijiju Honors Qatar’s Father Amir, Strengthens India-Qatar Relations

Date:

India’s Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, recently traveled to Doha to express India’s condolences over the death of Qatar’s Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. The visit highlighted the enduring and robust diplomatic ties between India and Qatar. Rijiju conveyed his condolences on behalf of the Indian government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his meeting with Qatar’s current Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

In his remarks, Rijiju praised the late Father Amir as a visionary leader instrumental in Qatar’s development and in strengthening the strategic partnership between the two nations. He noted that the Indian community in Qatar deeply mourns the loss and holds Sheikh Hamad’s contributions in high regard. This sentiment echoes earlier tributes by Prime Minister Modi, who acknowledged Sheikh Hamad as a true friend of India, recognizing his efforts in enhancing bilateral relations.

As a gesture of respect, India observed a national day of mourning on July 13, 2026. During this day, the national flag was flown at half-mast on government buildings, and all official entertainment activities were suspended. This act of mourning underscored the significance of the Father Amir’s legacy and his impact on the India-Qatar relationship.

Rijiju’s visit, marked by solemn condolences and mutual respect, underscores the close diplomatic relationship between the two countries. The journey serves as a testament to the importance both nations place on their longstanding partnership, further cementing the ties that have been built over the years.
