Delhi to Launch Namo Yamuna Ferry Service Before Chhath Puja

Date:

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced the upcoming launch of the “Namo Yamuna” ferry service, scheduled to begin operations a few days before Chhath Puja, which will be celebrated from November 13 to 16. The service is intended to enhance the festive experience for those participating in the Chhath Puja celebrations along the Yamuna River.

The ferry service will operate between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur, covering a distance of approximately five kilometers along the river. Passengers will be able to enjoy scenic views of the ghats and the natural landscape, with tickets priced at around ₹500 per person. The one-hour cruise is designed to offer a unique perspective of the riverside area, which is being developed into a picnic destination for families to gather and offer prayers.

Chief Minister Gupta inspected the ferry at Sonia Vihar Sports Club and visited Sur Ghat, where the Chhath celebrations will take place. The ferry, named Island Boats 40 (IB 40), is a 40-foot vessel built by Mumbai-based Inspiration Marine Pvt Ltd. It features a catamaran-style hull for stability and is designed to navigate the shallow stretches of the Yamuna River.

The ferry service was initially set to launch on February 20 but faced delays due to incomplete project work. The jetties along the route will be equipped with boarding facilities, ticket counters, and waiting areas to ensure passenger convenience.
