The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust has accepted the resignations of its General Secretary Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra amidst an ongoing investigation into allegations of embezzlement involving donations for the Ram Mandir. Trust treasurer Govind Giri confirmed the resignations were in line with the trust’s regulatory framework. While announcing the decision, Giri recognized Rai’s significant contributions to the trust since its formation.
The resignations follow accusations of irregularities in the handling of temple donations, a situation described as both painful and shameful by senior trust member Pankaj Jaiswal. Jaiswal emphasized the seriousness of any theft involving contributions from devotees, labeling such actions as completely unacceptable.
In response to these developments, the trust has temporarily appointed Krisha Mohan as the interim General Secretary. Govind Giri will maintain his role as treasurer. The trust is scheduled to convene again on July 22, by which time the Special Investigation Team (SIT) is expected to deliver its final report on the matter.
Giri stressed the trust’s commitment to accountability, asserting that no individual found guilty of wrongdoing would be shielded from legal repercussions, regardless of their position within the trust. He affirmed that everyone implicated must face the consequences of their actions under the law.
As the investigation continues, eight individuals have been arrested in relation to the alleged theft of donations, underscoring the gravity of the situation as authorities work to resolve the case and ensure justice is served.
