“Great for Everybody”: Trump’s High Hopes for Xi Meeting

Date:

President Donald Trump has high hopes for his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, predicting it will be “great for everybody.”
The “big meeting” is set for Thursday in South Korea, on the sidelines of the APEC summit. Speaking from Japan, Trump said, “I think it’s going to work out very well.”
His confidence comes despite a new trade flare-up. The US has threatened 100% tariffs on Chinese goods from November 1 in response to China’s new controls on rare earth exports.
This escalation, along with US port fees and Chinese countermeasures, has ended a recent period of calm.
Trump also noted the significance of the talks, stating that both he and President Xi “have a lot to talk about.”
